Choosing a career in dentistry was not a single moment of realization but rather the culmination of many experiences, values, and aspirations that shaped who I am. At its core, dentistry combines science, art, and human connection—three elements that deeply resonate with me. I chose this profession because it allows me to improve people’s health, restore their confidence, and make a lasting impact on their quality of life, all while continuously challenging myself to grow.
My initial interest in dentistry was sparked by the unique way it bridges medicine and artistry. Dentistry demands precision and technical expertise, but it also requires creativity in designing restorations, shaping smiles, and applying aesthetic principles. I have always been drawn to fields where science meets craftsmanship, and dentistry embodies this balance perfectly. Working with my hands while solving complex biological problems gives me a deep sense of fulfillment.
Beyond the technical aspects, what solidified my decision was the human side of the profession. Oral health is directly tied to overall health, confidence, and social interaction. I have seen patients walk into a dental office with pain, anxiety, or embarrassment, and leave with relief, comfort, and renewed self-esteem. Being able to bring that transformation to someone’s life is powerful. Dentistry offers the opportunity not just to treat disease, but to empower patients with education, prevention, and the ability to smile freely.
My journey as an educator further reinforced my passion for this field. Teaching dental students at Midwestern University has given me a front-row seat to the future of dentistry and reminded me of why I chose this path in the first place. Guiding students through their training has been rewarding, but it has also motivated me to advance my own career in the U.S. so that I can lead by example—not only as a teacher, but as a practicing dentist serving patients.
I also chose dentistry because it aligns with the life I want to build. It is a profession that demands discipline, lifelong learning, and resilience—qualities I embrace and strive to strengthen every day. At the same time, it offers independence, the chance to build lasting relationships with patients, and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a community. For me, dentistry is not just a job, but a calling that reflects my values of service, excellence, and integrity.
In the end, I chose dentistry because it gives me a purpose that is larger than myself. It allows me to blend science, art, and compassion in a way that directly impacts people’s lives. Every patient treated, every smile restored, and every student inspired reinforces that this is exactly where I am meant to be. Dentistry is not simply my career—it is the way I will leave a positive mark on the world.
